With the help of fantastic community volunteers, we began a woodwork pilot program engaging the senior students from grades five and six. Still in its infancy, the program provides children with hands-on wood working skills and tactile experience beyond the regular classroom.

Our students have been involved from the ground up – fitting, constructing and installing benches and work areas in the woodwork room. We have participated in the purposeful construction of all manner of useful projects in and around the school including planter boxes that the children then sell at our Thursday Market and the Bentleigh Farmers’ Market.

Our woodwork program has become a popular option for both boys and girls, and we hope to be able to extend it further over the next few years.
